Little Axe Public Schools is happy to announce that they have been awarded a grant funded by CDC in collaboration with the Oklahoma State Department of Health to regularly test their students and staff for COVID-19.
\r\nIn order to receive grant funding, Little Axe Public Schools must implement a testing program and plan on how they will test 10% of their enrollment every month. For Little Axe, that will be 114 people made up of students, staff, and community members on a voluntary basis. We plan on extending this testing to the community with drive up testing on a set schedule that will be released later. Community testing can be for possible exposures, ending quarantine, or any other testing needs for our community that helps in the convenience of testing.
\r\nRegular COVID-19 testing is a safe, effective way to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help keep our schools open for in-person learning. Many people with COVID-19, especially children and teens, don’t have symptoms but can still spread the virus, so regular testing helps find infections before they can spread to others. The goal of this program is to provide free, in-school COVID-19 screening and testing to students who opt in with a guardian’s permission and to faculty/staff and volunteers who opt-in to the program.
